After smaller forays into selling merchandise online, San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance was looking to create a solid and scalable e-commerce site. I was tasked with two main goals: replace a clunky, out-dated, difficult to edit Shopify template, and align the ShopZoo brand’s look and feel with the San Diego Zoo and Safari Park’s websites.
Before:
The previous Shopify template did not allow for editable text or buttons over images, which meant that these had to be built into the graphics.
After:
The homepage now has a flexible modular system enabling editors to rearrange it at will, depending on seasons and promotions. Text is fully editable within the CMS and separate from the artwork layers, making it ADA and responsive-device friendly.
To better align with the lush wildlife photography featured on the San Diego Zoo and Safari Park websites, the homepage was elevated from uninspired product shots to a combination of outdoor lifestyle and studio imagery.
